Hi Team!

First off, a little feedback. Your hosting is just excellent - always reliable, very intuitive, never a problem :) Thank you, it has made my life much easier!

I want to change domains for two hosted sites. I have mysite.com and dev.mysite.com, and I want to make the dev.mysite.com the main site (i.e. become mysite.com).

I am planning to change mysite.com to dev2.mysite.com using the instructions here:
https://www.jamroom.net/the-jamroom-network/documentation/howto/1077/howto-change-the-jamroom-directory-or-domain

Then I will change dev.mysite.com to mysite.com.

I just wanted to check (just being ultra cautious) that changing a domain to an already existing domain won't present a problem, or if there is anything else I would need to do - I will need to iframe link to items on the new mysite.com pretty soon after making the change, and they will be live and publicised iframes from that point onwards.

Thanks!

Can you not just use the 'Change Domain Name' tool in your Hosting Control Panel and do it via a dummy domain name?

mysite.com => dummy.com
dev.mysite.com => mysite.com
dummy.com => dev.mysite.com

The change has been made, but I am getting Insecure Connection warnings on the site I have tried this on:
Quote: Your connection is not secure
The owner of dev2.virti.co has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox Developer Edition has not connected to this website.

Changing dev.virti.co to virti.co has worked fine, and that's the main site so problem solved.

I suspect that if I now change dev2.virti.co back to dev.virti.co that will work as well. I can leave that for now though in case you want to take a look and see why the change of domain gives an insecure connection warning.

probably needs the security cert re-built. maybe try the DISABLE SSL button from the jamroom hosting control panel for the domain then re-enable it for the domain?

Hi Michael

It doesn't appear to disable. I click the button, ok the modal and the disable url loads, but the button still says Disable SSL

Hi Steve - I'm checking this out - I see the error coming in to our Activity Log. It's trying to remove it and restart Apache so the new config takes effect, but there's a separate check for the Profile Domain module (looking in data/media/0/0 for the apache conf file) and that's failing - I'll get this fixed up for you and let you know.
