would be a big project but, 1 really worthwhile
have a test environment module that alows you to work on skin updates or creation, design alterations, layput changes etc etc in a test environment either as a /test/ folder or test.domain subdomain (but still uses live sites /data/ to avoid unnecessary data duplication) that way you can work on an entire site redesign is a simulated live environment, then simply publish it as a skin and mark it active. i know you have a whole developer thing for how to do it on your pc then publish it through ssh, but it would be alot more user friendly to simply have a shadow copy in a test environment to work on within the admin site and publish from there'

Thanks for the suggestion.
How I'd approach this is to update the Admin Skin module so as to add a master only checkbox to the User Account forms. If checked, those users would see the selected skin that is under development. This would allow you to have test admins and regular users during the skin's development.
Might that work for you?
